REDF is a San Francisco-based organization providing financial and technical assistance to a select group of Bay Area nonprofits* to help them start, grow and sustain ‘social enterprises’ – businesses that sell products and services to the marketplace and employ people with the greatest barriers to work. Since 1997, over 3,500 young people and adults overcoming histories of homelessness, incarceration and severe disability have moved into the workforce. Along with significant reductions in recidivism to jail and returns to homelessness, 74% of social enterprise employees are still working two years after getting that first job. For more information about the types of services REDF provides and our history of accomplishments,
* Organizations currently in REDF’s ‘portfolio’ include: Community Housing Partnership, St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County, San Francisco Clean City Coalition and the San Francisco Conservation Corps. Each of these high-performing nonprofits, in addition to running a social enterprise, provides a variety of employment services to their clients.
